Madison, February 6, 2017 – HealthConnect.Link, a Madison-based non-profit venture, is very pleased to announce the establishment of a partnership with WisCARES, an outreach program through the University of Wisconsin Schools of Veterinary Medicine and Social Work.

HealthConnect.Link is creating an online community of free and subsidized health resources, helping healthcare professionals and community agencies connect low income uninsured or underinsured patients with needed services and support.

Wisconsin Companion Animal Resources, Education and Social Services (WisCARES) is an outreach program through the University of Wisconsin Schools of Veterinary Medicine and Social Work.  WisCARES provides veterinary medical care, housing support and advocacy to Dane County pet owners who are experiencing homelessness or housing instability.

“A lot of the people accessing our services are not people who the social workers involved in the program are familiar with, so we’re starting to identify a new population of people that just isn’t hooked up to the services that are available.” says William Gilles, DVM, Director of WisCARES.

Kevin Dwyer, CEO of HealthConnect.Link, noted that “For many people, their pets provide a lot of comfort and companionship, especially when they are struggling financially and their health needs are not being met. WisCARES offers a very unique service to Dane County’s homeless population. In doing so they are demonstrating a great deal of compassion for these animals and their owners. We believe that this partnership will create an exciting opportunity. We look forward to working with WisCARES, and we hope that together we can make sure the most vulnerable people in our community, and their pets, have every opportunity to connect with the help they need.”
